Patrick McGoohan, star of 1960s British TV shows The Prisoner and Danger Man, has died at 80. The shows are fascinating and influential to this day, and The Prisoner, which McGoohan co-created, inspired a remake in production now.
Surreal and thought-provoking, The Prisoner inspires debate and analysis about the true meaning of the Number Six character. Danger Man is a good spy series capturing the time and place of 1960s Britain. One episode, "Not-So-Jolly Roger," includes the setting of an unregulated pirate radio station on a fort at sea These British pirate radio broadcasts from international waters were prevalent at the time. The show is mysterious and engaging, with action and adventure.
This picture which I took in London in 2000 includes Big Ben, included in the Prisoner episode title "The Chimes of Big Ben."
